Choose a backpack that suits your child's height. A small 3D backpack is ideal for toddlers at nursery, with room for a cuddly toy and a snack. For preschoolers and primary school children, a backpack of about 31 x 25 cm with a side pocket for a drinking bottle is handy. Adjust the shoulder straps so the bag sits high on the back and doesn't hang lower than the hips. Only pack what is needed, and put heavy items closest to the back. Let your child try the bag on at home and practise opening and closing the zip, so they can get their own things at school or nursery.
Hair clips and small parts are not suitable for playing with alone: supervise and put them away after use. Don't let young children play with a trolley on or near the stairs unattended.
