How does a thermos bottle work?

A thermos bottle has a double wall of stainless steel. Between the two walls is an insulating layer, so the drink stays at the same temperature much longer than in an ordinary water bottle. Cold water stays cold, and warm tea or milk cools down more slowly. With cold drinks the outside usually stays dry too, so the school bag doesn't get wet. Stainless steel is sturdy, lasts a long time and hardly absorbs smells.

b.box insulated drink bottle 350 ml

The b.box insulated drink bottle of 350 ml is made for little ones, from 12 months. It has double-walled stainless steel insulation, a silicone straw and an integrated handle. Drinks stay cold for up to 8 hours or warm for up to 6 hours. Choose from colours such as Blue Slate, Chill Out, Emerald Forest, Indigo Rose, Lemon Sherbet, Lemon Twist, Lilac Pop, Passion Splash and a Hello Kitty Fashionista version.

b.box insulated drink bottle 500 ml

For older children there is the b.box insulated drink bottle of 500 ml, with a silicone straw and carry handle. It keeps drinks cold for up to 15 hours or warm for up to 8 hours. There are lots of colours, such as Blue Blaze, Blush Crush, Flamingo Fizz, Midnight, Ocean Breeze and Strawberry Shake.

b.box insulated sport spout bottle 500 ml

The b.box sport spout bottle has a silicone spout for free-flowing drinking, and a lid that covers the spout and keeps it hygienic. With the lid closed, the bottle is leakproof. This bottle also keeps drinks cold for up to 15 hours or warm for up to 8 hours, and has a silicone carry handle.

Quokka stainless steel bottles

The Quokka bottles are made of double-walled stainless steel and keep drinks cold the longest: up to 18 hours, and even longer with ice. The Quokka Solid bottles of 510 and 630 ml also keep drinks warm for up to 12 hours. Choose Deep Sea, Pink Vibe or Tropical. The Quokka Spring bottles of 600 ml, in Aqua Violet and Bondi, are mainly made to keep drinks cool.

Kidzroom and Petit Monkey

The Kidzroom stainless steel bottles hold 350 ml and are suitable from 3 years, with cheerful designs from the Beary Excited, Small Talk and Sweet Cuddles collections, featuring dinosaurs, planes and cars. The Petit Monkey stainless steel bottles also hold 350 ml, with a panda or a drops print in blue or green.

Thermos bottle or ordinary water bottle?

An ordinary plastic or Tritan water bottle is light and affordable, but the drink quickly takes on the surrounding temperature. On a warm day in the school bag, water turns lukewarm. A thermos bottle is a little heavier, but keeps the drink at temperature for hours. For a long school day, a day out or summer sports, an insulated bottle is ideal. For short trips or the youngest children, a light water bottle can be handier.

Which thermos bottle suits your child?

• Toddlers from 12 months: the b.box 350 ml with straw and handle.
• Preschool and primary school: the b.box 500 ml, the b.box sport spout bottle or a 350 ml Kidzroom or Petit Monkey bottle.
• Big thirst or a long day: a Quokka of 510, 600 or 630 ml.
• As cold as possible for as long as possible: Quokka, up to 18 hours.

Safe use

Don't put hot drinks in the bottle for children; let warm tea or milk cool down first. Because the bottle insulates so well, the drink stays warm for a long time, which can be a surprise at the first sip. Always taste before your child drinks. The b.box sport spout bottle isn't meant for acidic drinks, and never put a thermos bottle in the microwave.

Cleaning

Regularly take straws, spouts and lids apart and clean them well, because residue can collect there. The b.box bottles can go in the top rack of the dishwasher, and the Kidzroom bottles can also go in the dishwasher. Wash the Quokka bottles by hand. For the Petit Monkey bottles, hand washing is recommended. Let everything dry well before screwing the bottle closed again.

Everyday tips

1. In summer, rinse the bottle with cold water first, so the drink stays cool even longer.
2. In winter, rinse the bottle with warm water first before filling it with warm tea.
3. Put your child's name on the bottle, because there are often lots of identical ones at school.
4. Fill the bottle with water: it's the healthiest choice and easy to keep clean.
