A baby blanket is one of the first things you buy for your little one, and one of the most used. You tuck your baby in at night, lay it over their legs in the pram, use it as a soft layer in the playpen or take it along when visiting grandma and grandpa. A familiar blanket smells of home and helps your child settle, even in a different place. Many children keep their blanket for years as a comfort blanket.
The right size depends on where you use the blanket. Our collection includes these sizes, among others:
A smaller blanket is lighter and fits more easily in a bag, which is handy when you are out and about with your baby or on your travels. A big blanket lasts longer as your child grows.
Cotton is breathable, soft and easy to wash, so your baby is less likely to get too warm under a cotton blanket. The crocheted Stone Washed blankets by BimbiDreams are made of 100% organic cotton, kind to delicate baby skin. The TOG rating shows how well a blanket keeps in warmth: the higher the rating, the warmer the blanket. The Jollein Basic Knit cot blanket with fleece, for example, has a TOG rating of 2.0, suitable for cooler nights. In a warm room or in summer, a thin cotton or bamboo blanket is often enough. Feel the back of your baby's neck to check they are not too warm or too cold: warm and dry is good, sweaty means a layer can come off.
Safety comes first. Put your baby to sleep on their back, with their feet at the foot of the bed. Tuck the blanket in firmly at chest height so your baby cannot wriggle underneath it. Do not use a duvet, pillow or loose soft toys in a young baby's bed, and keep the bedroom cool, around 18°C. Want to be sure the blanket stays in place? Tip: fold the top of the sheet over the blanket. This keeps the blanket clean for longer, so you need to wash it less often.

For a crib or pram, 75 x 100 cm or 80 x 110 cm is a good size. For a cot, choose a blanket of 100 x 150 cm or 110 x 145 cm.
All blankets in our collection are suitable from birth, provided you tuck the blanket in firmly at chest height and lay your baby with their feet at the foot of the bed.
A blanket with a fleece or sherpa lining or a higher TOG rating is the warmest. Cotton and bamboo are cooler and nicer in summer.
Most blankets can go in the washing machine at 30°C or 40°C. Use a mild detergent and dry the blanket flat.
