Looking for a cheerful, practical lunch box for school or daycare? Sugarbooger makes bento lunch boxes with three compartments, so the sandwich, the fruit and a snack stay nicely separated. The brand is part of Ore Originals, founded by the American designer Lisa Low, who wants to create safe and handy products for children and their parents. At Tiny Giggles you will find the Sugarbooger Good Lunch Bento Box in two cheerful designs. Below you can read how the lunch box works, what to put in it and how to look after it.
About Sugarbooger
Sugarbooger's motto is "for kids and the people who love them". Lisa Low started the brand out of a wish to design products that are safe, unique and useful for every family. Her designs are cheerful and colourful, but above all functional: things parents love to use themselves and often give as a gift to a new parent or a child.
The Sugarbooger Good Lunch Bento Box
The Good Lunch Bento Box is a light lunch box of about 22 x 15 x 6 cm. It is made of PP (polypropylene) and is non-toxic, lead-free, PVC-free and phthalate-free. Inside are three compartments with high inner walls, so the food does not slide together. The click lid prevents spills and keeps food fresh, thanks to the airtight construction. That means no more plastic bags or separate tubs: you pack a complete lunch in one go. Choose from:
- Ocean: white with blue, with a cheerful deep-sea theme in a beautiful blue colour palette.
- Tiger: white with green, with two cheerful tigers.
Why a bento lunch box?
A bento box originally comes from Japan: a box with compartments in which you take a varied meal with you. For children this works really well. The compartments make the lunch look clear and appealing, and a sandwich stays dry next to juicy fruit. Children choose for themselves what to eat first, and after school you can see straight away what has been eaten. More lunch boxes with compartments are under bento lunch boxes, or specifically under bento lunch boxes for boys and bento lunch boxes for girls.
What do you put in the three compartments?
With three compartments, a varied lunch is easy. A handy split:
- Large compartment: a sandwich, a wrap, crackers or a pasta salad.
- Middle compartment: fruit or vegetables, such as grapes, apple slices, cucumber, cherry tomatoes or pepper strips.
- Small compartment: a little extra, such as a few nuts (for older children), raisins, a piece of cheese or a rice cake.
Cut fruit and vegetables into bite-sized pieces, which are easier to eat during a short break. For young children, cut grapes and cherry tomatoes in half lengthways. Vary what goes into the compartments now and then, so lunch stays exciting.
Lunch ideas for a whole week
Need inspiration? With these ideas, you fill the three compartments of your Sugarbooger lunch box differently every day:
- Monday: wholemeal sandwich with cheese, cucumber slices and a mandarin.
- Tuesday: wrap with hummus, cherry tomatoes (halved) and apple slices.
- Wednesday: crackers with cream cheese, pepper strips and a handful of raisins.
- Thursday: pasta salad with vegetables, grapes (halved) and a rice cake.
- Friday: mini pancakes, strawberries and baby carrots.
Keeping lunch fresh and cool
The airtight click lid keeps food fresh, but on a warm day or when lunch stays in the bag for a long time, keeping it cool is extra nice. Put the lunch box in a lunch bag or a cooler bag, possibly with an ice pack. Ideally pack the lunch box in the morning, or put it in the fridge already filled the evening before. Handy extras such as ice packs or separate containers are under accessories and parts for lunch boxes.
Cleaning and care
Clean the lunch box after every use with warm water and a little washing-up liquid, and let it dry well before closing the lid again. That keeps it fresh and prevents smells. Don't leave leftovers in the box for too long, especially on warm days. For specific instructions, for example about the dishwasher, always check the packaging.
Ready for school
A lunch box of their own makes going to school just that bit more fun. Complete the set with a bottle, a bag and other things. Everything for lunch is under lunch, and everything for the new school year under school. Want to buy several items at once? With create a school kit you put together your own kit and get a discount: 5% on 2 items, 10% on 3 items and 15% on 4 or more.
Sugarbooger or another brand?
The Good Lunch Bento Box is light, simple and cheerful, with three spacious compartments: ideal for a child who likes to open and close the lunch box themselves. Looking for more or smaller compartments? Then take a look at the bento lunch boxes from Yumbox, with different compartment layouts, or the lunch boxes from b.box. Regular lunch boxes without compartments and small snack boxes and fruit containers are handy for a snack.
Tips for a lunch that actually gets eaten
Let your child help pack the lunch box. Children prefer to eat what they have chosen themselves. Offer two or three options per compartment and let your child choose. Keep portions small: a lunch box that comes back completely empty feels good. And make it fun now and then, for example with a sandwich in a cheerful shape or a little note in the lunch box.
