About Tikiri
Tikiri makes baby and toddler toys from natural rubber and ethically made gifts in Sri Lanka. The toys are designed to delight, comfort and support children's development. The rubber comes from the latex of the Hevea tree, the rubber tree, and is combined with ethically sourced cotton materials. According to the brand, everything is made to high standards of production and quality. That makes Tikiri a lovely choice for parents who look for natural materials and fair production.
Tikiri comforters with teether
The Tikiri comforters are about 21 cm. The soft comforter is made of 100% organic cotton and the head of natural rubber. Your baby can hold the comforter and cuddle it, and suck and chew on the rubber head. Choose from:
- Giraffe: an orange giraffe with a natural rubber giraffe head to chew on.
- Lion: a pink lion with a natural rubber lion head as a teether.
The comforters are designed to be easy for little hands to hold, and according to the brand they are suitable for newborns and toddlers. They are certified non-toxic and free of BPA, phthalates and PVC, and meet the European EN71 standards and the American ASTM F963.
Why natural rubber?
Natural rubber is soft yet sturdy, and gives a little when your baby bites on it. That feels pleasant on sensitive gums. The material comes from the rubber tree and is a natural alternative to plastic. That is why many parents consciously choose natural rubber teethers, just like the well-known Sophie the Giraffe. Natural rubber does contain latex: if your child has a latex allergy or you are unsure, choose a teether made of another material.
Comforter and teether in one
The nice thing about a Tikiri comforter is that it combines two functions. The soft comforter gives comfort at bedtime or when your baby is a little upset, and the rubber head helps when the teeth are coming through. Because the comforter is bigger than a loose teether, your baby can grip it more easily and drops it less often. That way your little one always has something familiar to chew on, at home and on the go.
A familiar comforter
Many children have a favourite comforter they take everywhere. It gives comfort and a sense of security, for example when saying goodbye at nursery, at a visit to the doctor or on holiday in an unfamiliar place. A comforter smells familiar and feels soft, and helps your little one calm down. Use the comforter with teether mainly during awake moments, when you are there, and don't put it in the cot while your baby sleeps. Tip: consider buying two, so there is always a clean one available while the other is in the wash.
Handy on the go
A comforter with teether is light and takes up little space. It fits in any changing bag and is handy in the pushchair, the car seat or at grandma's. Because your baby grips the comforter easily, it falls on the floor less often than a loose teether. If it does fall, quickly wipe the rubber head clean with a damp cloth.
Ethically made
Tikiri finds it important that its toys are made responsibly. The natural rubber comes from rubber trees in Sri Lanka, where the toys are also produced. The cotton of the comforters is organic. So you buy a toy you can feel good about, for your child and for the people who make it.
Tips for teething
Many babies' first teeth come through between 4 and 12 months, but it differs from child to child. You often notice it by extra dribbling, red cheeks and putting everything in the mouth. Chewing on something firm can feel soothing then. Give your baby the comforter to suck on, dry the chin regularly and give extra cuddles. If you are unsure whether something is caused by teething, ask your health visitor or GP for advice.
Giraffe or lion?
- Cheerful orange: the giraffe with giraffe head.
- Soft pink: the lion with lion head.
- Newborn gift: both, as a comforter that grows with your baby.
Safe use
Always supervise your baby when playing with the comforter. In the first year, don't put comforters or cuddly toys in the cot while your baby sleeps. Check the rubber head and comforter regularly, and stop using them if they are worn or damaged. Don't leave the toy in direct sunlight, as this can affect the rubber.
Cleaning and care
Always follow the product label for washing. For light cleaning, wipe the surface with a damp cloth and a little soapy water. Rinse and let the comforter dry well in an airy place, not in bright sun or on the radiator. Store it in a dry place, for example in a basket in the nursery, so you always have it to hand. That keeps the rubber and cotton nice for longer.
