Why a bib with sleeves?
Children learn to eat by exploring: they grab food with their hands, smear it over the table and wipe their mouth on their sleeve. That's part of it, but it means a lot of laundry. A sleeved bib works like a little jacket you put on over the clothes. After the meal you take it off, wipe it clean or toss it in the wash, and the clothes underneath are still clean. Especially with tricky dishes such as spaghetti, tomato soup, beetroot or fruit puree, that saves a lot of stains.

The b.box Smock Bib is made of polyester with a PU coating and is free from BPA, phthalates and PVC. It has adjustable neck and wrist straps and a catch pocket that sits above the table edge, so food falls into it instead of onto the lap. With the handy loop you can hang it on the bag or the pram. There are two sizes: 6 to 18 months (47 x 87 cm unfolded) and 2 to 4 years (56 x 103 cm unfolded), in colours such as Ocean Breeze, Strawberry Shake, Lemon Sherbet and Passion Splash. Machine washable at 30 °C.
Franck & Fischer Dirt
The Dirt sleeved bib from Franck & Fischer is made of certified organic cotton and is phthalate-free. It is suitable from 1 to 4 years, with a width of 40 cm and a height of 48 cm, and washable at 30 °C. Choose from blue or grey stripes, grey, pink and red.
Smallstuff
The sleeved bibs from Smallstuff have a nylon front and a soft terry back. With the adjustable ties on the back the bib fits well, even as your child grows. Length 35 cm, sleeves 29 cm, suitable from 1 to 4 years. There are prints such as Big Leaves, Denim Animal and Elephants. Wash separately at 30 °C.
Lässig
From Lässig there are sets of 2 sleeved bibs of 80 x 36 cm, in 100% polyester, BPA-free and Oeko-Tex, for 6 to 24 months. Choose Little Forest Rabbit or Little Mateys. Washable at 40 °C.
Jollein and Babyono
The Jollein waterproof bib with sleeves is made of water-resistant polyester and polyurethane and is suitable from birth to 2 years, in Peach and Pear. Wash it at 30 °C with the Velcro closed in a laundry bag. The Babyono sleeved bib (35 x 40 cm, from 2 years) has a cotton outer layer and a waterproof inner layer, with a Velcro closure for easy on and off.
Choosing long sleeve bibs
- Age: for first bites choose Jollein, Lässig or the small b.box; for toddlers Franck & Fischer, Smallstuff, Babyono or the large b.box.
- Material: a water-resistant or coated fabric wipes clean quickly; cotton feels soft and goes in the wash.
- Closure: Velcro is quick, ties are easy to adjust.
- Catch pocket: handy if your child spills a lot; the b.box has one.
- Sustainable: Franck & Fischer is made of organic cotton.

- 0 to 6 months: Jollein, if you start early with fruit purees.
- 6 to 18 months: the small b.box Smock Bib or the Lässig set.

For crafts and play too
A sleeved bib isn't only handy at the table. With finger paint, watercolours, clay and glue, clothes and sleeves stay clean. Washing and care
You can wipe most sleeved bibs with a damp cloth after a meal. If they are really dirty, put them in the washing machine: b.box, Franck & Fischer, Smallstuff and Jollein at 30 °C, Lässig at 40 °C. Close the Velcro before washing so it doesn't damage the rest of the laundry. Let the bibs air dry; don't iron, bleach or tumble dry the Lässig and Jollein models.
Using them safely
Only use a bib while your child is awake and you are there, and take it off after eating or playing. Always let your child eat sitting upright in the high chair. Adjust neck and wrist straps so they aren't too tight.
