The BimbiDreams themes
Each BimbiDreams theme has its own mood. Cottage and Wonderland are soft and romantic, Leon and Indian calm in grey and white, Happy and Happy Days cheerful in green and purple, and Unicorn is sweet pink. Guau has a puppy print in blue and white, and Jurassic a playful dino print in brown, purple or white. Many themes also appear in other BimbiDreams products, such as cushions, garlands and changing baskets, so you can match the nursery and the first outfit beautifully.
Why organic cotton?
Several sets, such as Cottage, Wonderland and Leon, are made of organic cotton. It is grown without chemical pesticides and is therefore better for the environment. For your baby it feels just as soft and breathable as regular cotton. With 4% elastane the fabric stretches, so dressing goes smoothly.
Bibikidz bodysuits
The Bibikidz bodysuits are made of 100% cotton: soft, breathable and comfortable for delicate baby skin. There is a caramel bodysuit for boys and a pink one for girls, for the first month and washable at 40 °C. A lovely everyday basic.
What to look for in first baby clothes
- Easy on and off: a wrap top or bodysuit with poppers is much easier than anything that goes over the head.
- Soft fabric: cotton and organic cotton breathe well and are gentle on delicate skin.
- Not too tight: a little elastane lets the garment move with your baby.
- Not too much at once: babies grow fast; do not buy too much in the smallest size.
How many clothes do you need?
For the first weeks you need about six to eight bodysuits, four to six trousers or sleepsuits, two or three tops or wrap tops, a few hats, socks and scratch mittens. Babies spit up and leak regularly, so count on changing them several times a day. A few extra bodysuits are never superfluous. At first, choose mainly basic colours that are easy to combine, so you always have a matching outfit with only a few clothes.
Washing baby clothing
Wash new baby clothes before first use, with a mild detergent without perfume. Leave out fabric softener, which can irritate delicate skin. Wash at the temperature on the label: the BimbiDreams sets at 30 °C, the Bibikidz bodysuits at 40 °C. Wash clothes inside out and close poppers and zips, so everything stays nice for longer.
Safe and comfortable
A newborn cannot yet regulate their temperature well. So do not dress your baby too warmly: usually one layer more than yourself is enough. The hat is meant for outdoors; take it off indoors and during sleep so your baby does not overheat. Feel the back of the neck to check whether your baby is too warm or too cold. Let your baby sleep in a sleeping bag rather than with loose blankets.
In the hospital bag
Giving birth in hospital, or just want to be prepared? Pack one complete outfit in the hospital bag: a bodysuit, a wrap top, trousers, socks, a hat for the journey home and scratch mittens. A newborn set with its own carry bag is ideal for this: everything is together and you pack it in one go. Also remember a warm blanket for the car seat.
