An apple for break time, some crackers on the go or a pot of yoghurt at nursery: with a good snack box your child always has a healthy snack at hand. Children often need something between meals. A box of their own makes it easy to pack fruit, vegetables or a biscuit, without plastic bags or loose tubs that leak in the bag. The food stays whole and clean, and your child can open the box themselves. And because you reuse it every day, you have less waste.
The b.box Snack Box is made for anything wet. The two compartments are sealed and leakproof, so you can fill them with purée, yoghurt or a dip. There is also a flexible fruit compartment with an elastic seal. You open and close the box with an easy grip clip, the seals are removable so everything gets properly clean, and it is freezer-safe. At about 11 x 16.5 cm it fits neatly in the b.box lunch bag. Choose from lots of colours, such as Blush Crush, Flamingo Fizz, Lemon Sherbet, Midnight, Ocean Breeze and Strawberry Shake.
The b.box Snack Pack has two compartments that you can seal separately: a large 200 ml compartment and a small 160 ml one. A soft-tip spoon clicks into the lid, and the base is non-slip. The box itself is microwave-safe, but without the lid.
The Yumbox Snacks has three compartments: one of 240 ml, one of 180 ml and a small round compartment for raisins, for example. It measures about 17 x 13 x 5 cm and weighs only 350 grams. The inner tray is made of Tritan and the lid of food-safe silicone. Choose Dinosaur Jurassic Green or Dinosaur Surf Blue.
The SnackDisc (about 15 cm) and the larger BentoDisc (about 18 cm) by Carl Oscar are suitable from 3 years and dishwasher-safe. They come in cheerful colours such as lime, orange, purple and turquoise, and the SnackDisc also with a dolphin, camel or panda.
The nuuroo Rosa Small Koala tubs are small containers made of food-grade silicone, about 8 cm across, in a set of two. They are dishwasher- and microwave-safe. In calm colours such as Acorn, Bering Sea, Dusty Green and Woodrose.
With the Skip Hop Zoo snack containers and the Prêt Everyday Okey snack containers you get three tubs in different sizes with snap-on lids. Thanks to the space-saving design, they take up little room in the cupboard. The Skip Hop ones hold 175, 295 and 470 ml. These tubs are meant for fruit, vegetables and dry food such as crackers and cereal, not for liquids.
At nursery and in reception class, your child needs to be able to open their box on their own. Practise a few times at home, so it goes smoothly at school. For young children, choose a box with an easy clip or a soft silicone lid. Put your child's name on the box, because a classroom often has lots of identical tubs. And rather pack a small portion that actually gets eaten than a full box that comes home half full. That way the food stays tasty and you waste less.
Vary colours and shapes: a cheerful box with different bites makes eating more inviting.
Most of these boxes can go in the dishwasher, often in the top rack only. With the b.box Snack Box, take the seals out so you can clean the edges properly too. Let everything dry well before closing the box again. Rinse a box that held yoghurt or dip straight after use, so it stays fresh.
