Bright Starts makes colourful baby toys full of music, lights and cheerful animals. The brand is part of the American company Kids2 and is best known for its activity gyms. At Tiny Giggles you will find Bright Starts play mats with a play arch, car seat toys for on the go and a soft activity book. Everything is suitable from birth. Below you can read what makes each product special and how to enjoy it for a long time.
A play mat with a play arch, also called a baby gym, is often a baby's first real toy. Your little one lies on a soft mat and looks at the toys hanging above them. After a while they start reaching for them, batting at them and grabbing them. Bright Starts has three models:
Want a large, extra soft mat for tummy time and for lying next to your baby? Then choose the Hug-n-Cuddle Elephant. Looking for a classic baby gym with lots of different toys and the option to hang more later? Then the Zippity Zoo is a good choice. And if you have little space or want to take it to the grandparents easily, the compact Monkey Business is handy. All three mats are machine washable.
For shopping, a visit or a car ride, Bright Starts has two car seat toys. You attach them to the carry handle of an infant car seat (group 0), so your baby has something to look at and do:
Both measure about 32 x 13 x 4.5 cm. Always follow the instructions of your car seat about the position of the carry handle while driving, and keep loose items in the car to a minimum.
The Twiddle Tweets Soft Activity Book is a soft book about a peacock, with numbers, colours and animal friends in its tail feathers. The pages crinkle, it has rattling beads and a teether, and the sliding feathers make a funny click-clack sound. That way your baby explores with hands, eyes, ears and mouth at the same time. The book is about 19 x 20 cm and suitable from 0 months.
In the first months, a baby mainly sees strong contrasts and bright colours, and the cheerful colours of Bright Starts play into that. Around 3 months, your baby starts reaching and batting purposefully at what hangs above. A mirror is fascinating, even though your little one does not yet know they are seeing themselves. Rattles and crinkly fabrics show that moving makes sound. And lying on their tummy on a soft play mat strengthens the neck, back and arm muscles, in preparation for rolling, sitting and crawling.
Many babies find lying on their tummy hard at first. Start with a few minutes at a time, a few times a day, when your baby is awake and rested. Lie down next to your little one at eye level, or place a toy or the mirror in front of them, so they have something to look at. Slowly build up the time. Do not let your baby sleep on their tummy and always stay with them.
Never leave your baby alone on the play mat and do not let them sleep on it: for sleep, an empty cot with a sleeping bag is safest. Regularly check that the toys and the arch are still firmly attached. Remove the play arch as soon as your baby tries to pull up on it or gets onto hands and knees. The musical toys run on batteries: always keep loose batteries out of children's reach.
The mats of the activity gyms are machine washable. Remove the arch and all toys first. Wipe the toys themselves, especially those with music and lights, clean with a damp cloth and a little mild soap. Do not submerge them in water, so the electronics stay intact. Let everything dry well before your baby plays with it again.
Also take a look at our other play mats and separate baby gym toys to hang from an arch. For walks you will find stroller toys, and for first reading activity books. Also fun: rattles, teethers and teething toys for when the first teeth come, soft cuddly toys and a musical mobile above the changing table. You will find all toys under play. Does your child love music and lights? Then also take a look at Baby Einstein. Everything for going out is under out with the baby.

A Bright Starts play mat is a popular baby gift: your baby can play on it from birth and enjoys it for months. A car seat toy or the activity book is a nice smaller gift, for example for a baby shower. We are happy to gift-wrap your present.
