About FlapJackKids
FlapJackKids came straight from the imagination of a creative mum and a super fun grandma, Jackie and Shirley. The brand is named after Jack, the son and grandson of the founders. Just like a flapjack, you can flip the products over: each side has its own pattern. Their motto is "put the fun in functional": practical things for children that are simply fun to wear. As mothers, Jackie and Shirley knew how important it is for children to cover their heads, in both warm and cold weather. When Jack refused to wear a hat, they came up with hats so much fun that children are happy to keep them on.
The reversible sun hats

All hats are soft, lightweight and splash-resistant. The chin straps go through the eyelets on the side, so they work well on both sides of the hat.
Which size do you choose?
- Small: for 6 months to 2 years, head circumference about 51 cm.
- Medium: for 2 to 4 years, head circumference about 54 cm.
Not sure? Use a soft tape measure to measure your child's head circumference, just above the eyebrows and ears. A hat that is slightly roomy will still fit next year, especially with the chin strap.
What does UPF 50+ mean?
UPF stands for Ultraviolet Protection Factor: the degree to which a fabric blocks the sun's UV radiation. With UPF 50+, less than 2% of UV radiation passes through the fabric. That means the FlapJackKids hats offer high protection for the head, ears and neck, areas that burn quickly in children.
Tips for a sunny day
- Hat on: a sun hat protects the head, ears and neck.
- Sun cream: apply children's sun cream to uncovered skin, and reapply regularly.
- Shade: stay in the shade as much as possible between 12pm and 3pm.
- Drinks: give your child extra to drink on warm days.
- Babies: keep babies under 6 months out of direct sunlight.
Getting used to a hat
Many little children pull a hat straight off. A few tricks make it easier. Let your child choose the side that goes out today, and wear a hat or cap yourself: children love to copy what they see. Start at home or in the garden with short moments and make it a game, for example in front of the mirror. The chin strap helps keep the hat in place, so it doesn't blow away in the first gust of wind.

Wearing it safely
The chin strap keeps the hat in place, even when it's windy or your child runs and plays. Don't fasten the chin strap too tightly: a finger should always fit between strap and chin. Take the hat off when your child goes to sleep, also in the pram, and only wear it under supervision. Indoors, your child doesn't need a hat.

The hats are splash-resistant, so a little water or sand is no problem. After a day at the seaside, rinse out the salt and sand and let the hat air dry. Always check the label for the exact washing instructions.
