We think it is important to be honest about this. Safe sleep advice recommends that babies sleep in an empty cot during their first year: on their back, on a firm mattress, with a well-fitting fitted sheet or a sleeping bag, and without pillows, soft toys, blankets or cot bumpers. A bumper can increase the risk of suffocation and overheating, and an older baby can use it to climb out. So don't use a bumper in the cot while your baby sleeps. See it as decoration: to dress up the room, for the moments your little one is awake and you are there, or to store until your child is older.

Everything is reversible, made of 100% cotton, suitable for babies and toddlers, washable at 40°C and suitable for the tumble dryer. Only use a duvet and pillow once your child is old enough; for a baby, a sleeping bag is the safest choice.
A soft fabric border instantly finishes off a nursery. Match the colours with the curtains, a rug or the bedding, or choose a cheerful print as an eye-catcher in a calm room. You can use it decoratively in the room during the day, for example on a sofa or in a reading corner, and remove it as soon as your little one goes to sleep. That way you get the cosy effect without any risk in the cot.
A safe cot is simple. Put your baby to sleep on their back, on a firm mattress that fits well, with no gaps along the edge. Use a snug fitted sheet or cot sheet, and let your baby sleep in a baby sleeping bag instead of under a duvet. Don't keep the bedroom too warm, and keep it smoke-free. Remove soft toys, pillows, blankets and cot bumpers from the cot before your baby goes to sleep.
For toddlers too: keep the bed uncluttered and remove the bumper as soon as your child can climb on it or get tangled in it. If the bumper has ties, check regularly that everything is securely fastened and that ties aren't too long. Use it mainly to dress up the room and enjoy the cosy atmosphere it creates.
