Nordic Label sun hats with SPF 50

The Nordic Hat SPF 50 is a sweet sun hat with protection for the face and neck. The hat has SPF 50 and therefore gives your child good protection against UV radiation. It sits securely on the head, and the extended back protects the neck from sunburn. The hats are made of 100% cotton and come in sizes 0-1 year and 1-2 years. Choose from:

• Illusion Blue and Total Eclipse in blue;
• Pale Dogwood and Rose in pink;
• Off White and White Skye in white.

Reversible sun hats

The Nordic Reversible Hat SPF 50 can be worn on both sides, so you get two hats in one. The hat is made of a light material, is longer at the back and has a small elastic all round, so it stays on well. Choose from:

• Denim: denim on one side, blue and white stripes on the other, in sizes 0-1, 1-2 and 2-4 years.
• Pale Dogwood: blue on one side and pink with a floral pattern on the other, in sizes 1-2 years (48 cm circumference) and 2-4 years (50 cm circumference).

The right size

A sun hat should fit well: not so tight that it pinches, and not so loose that it slips over the eyes or blows away in a gust of wind. If in doubt, measure the circumference of the head, just above the ears and eyebrows, and compare it with the size. The sizes are roughly 0-1 year, 1-2 years and 2-4 years; for the reversible Pale Dogwood the circumference is 48 or 50 cm. If your little one is between two sizes, choose the larger one, so the hat lasts all summer.

Well protected in the sun

A sun hat with SPF 50 is good protection, but it isn't the only measure. This is how you keep your child safe in the sun:

• Babies under 6 months should not be in direct sunlight. Keep them in the shade, for example under a parasol or a tree.
• Avoid the strong midday sun and seek shade during the hottest part of the day.
• Apply sunscreen to uncovered skin, using a high-factor children's sunscreen, and reapply regularly.
• Dress your child in light, covering clothes and use a sun hat with a brim or neck flap.
• Give your child regular drinks, especially on a hot day. Their own water bottle makes that easy.

Take the hat off when your little one goes to sleep in the pram or cot, so they don't get too warm. Also watch out for signs of overheating, such as a red face or drowsiness.

Wash the sun hats at 30°C and don't tumble dry them. Gently reshape the hat after washing and let it dry flat or over a bowl, so it keeps its shape. That way the hat lasts all summer, and often the next summer too. After the summer, store it clean and dry, flat in a drawer or box.
