How does a fresh food feeder work?
It consists of a handle with a mesh or silicone pouch. You put in a piece of soft fruit or steamed vegetable, close it and your baby can suck and chew on it. The juice and tiny bits of mash come through the holes, while the larger pieces stay in the pouch. That way your little one discovers new tastes and textures at their own pace.

Mesh or silicone?
A mesh bag lets fine bits and juice through well, which makes it nice for the very first introduction. It is a little harder to clean, as fibres can get stuck in it. A silicone feeder is gentle on the gums, easier to rinse clean and lasts longer. Many parents start with mesh and later switch to silicone, or use both.
Squiz squeeze pouches and snack bags

What do you put in a fresh food feeder?
- Soft fruit: ripe melon, banana, pear, peach, mango or soft berries.
- Steamed vegetables: carrot, broccoli, pumpkin or sweet potato, well cooled.
- When teeth are coming: chilled or frozen fruit. The cold feeling is often soothing for sensitive gums.
Cut the fruit or vegetable into pieces that fit in the pouch and remove stones, skin and hard parts.
Using it safely
Always stay with your child when they use a feeder or squeeze pouch, and let them sit upright. Check the mesh or silicone for tears or wear before every use, and replace the pouch if it is damaged. When to start solid food differs per child: if in doubt, discuss it with your health visitor or doctor. Many babies start around 6 months. Do not give ice cubes or hard pieces without a pouch.
Cleaning
Rinse the feeder with warm water straight after use, so no fruit residue dries in. Clean a mesh bag with a bottle brush or a small brush.
