About Eco Rascals

Eco Rascals was founded in 2018 by two British mums living in Abu Dhabi. Both wanted less plastic in everyday life, so they went looking for beautifully designed children's tableware without harmful materials. The result: plates made of bamboo, a natural material that grows fast and is cultivated without pesticides, and products made of food-safe silicone. Free from plastic, BPA, PVC, lead and phthalates, and with cheerful shapes that make children smile at the table.

Why bamboo?

Bamboo is actually a type of grass. It is fully grown within about five years, much faster than most types of wood, and the bamboo for Eco Rascals is grown without pesticides. A bamboo plate feels natural and stays cool to the touch, even when you serve warm food on it. Bamboo does need a little more care than plastic: it cannot go in the dishwasher or microwave. Washing by hand is enough, and then a plate lasts for years.

Eco Rascals bamboo plates with suction

The Eco Rascals bamboo plates have a removable silicone suction base that works with an airtight mechanism. That way the plate stays on the table or high chair, even when your little one has had enough. As your child grows, you simply remove the suction base. The bamboo stays cool to the touch and is easy to clean.

• Elephant plate: a cheerful elephant of about 24.9 x 18 cm with two sections, suitable from 6 months to 5 years. In blue, yellow, green, orange and pink.
• Car plate: a little car with three sections, suitable from 6 months to 5 years, in blue or orange.
• Duck plate: a duck with two sections, suitable from 6 months to 5 years, in yellow or green.
• Square baby plate: a small plate of about 17 x 17 cm with two sections, specially for babies and toddlers from 6 to 18 months. In blue or pink.

Divided plates are handy for keeping food separate. That helps little ones try new food, and makes it easier to serve a varied meal.

Eco Rascals silicone divided plate

The silicone divided plate with suction and divider is about 21.6 cm across and larger than many other silicone plates, so your child can use it for longer. The removable divider turns one plate into two sections. The high, sturdy edges help your child scoop food onto the spoon. This plate can go in the dishwasher, microwave, freezer and oven. Choose mustard or pink.

Eco Rascals cutlery and spoons

• 3-piece kids cutlery set: fork, spoon and knife of stainless steel with a food-safe silicone grip. The fork tines and knife edge are rounded to protect little mouths. The set can go in the dishwasher and steriliser. In mustard, pink, teal and silver.
• Bamboo and silicone spoon set: three spoons with a soft silicone head and a bamboo handle, suitable from 9 months. In blue, green and orange, or pink, green and yellow.

You will find more spoons and cutlery sets under kids cutlery.

Caring for bamboo and silicone

Bamboo is a natural material, and with a little care it lasts for years:

• Wash the bamboo plates and spoons by hand in warm soapy water and dry them well.
• Bamboo must not go in the microwave, oven, steriliser, dishwasher or freezer, and should not be left soaking in water.
• Remove the silicone suction base from the plate, wash it separately and let the bamboo ‘breathe’ between uses.

The silicone divided plate and the cutlery set can go in the dishwasher. Silicone is stain-resistant, but strongly coloured food such as carrot or tomato can leave some colour. So wash the plate straight after use; a little soda helps against stubborn stains.

Safe at the table

Always supervise your child while eating. Check plates, suction bases and cutlery regularly, and replace them at the first sign of damage. Check the temperature of the food before your child eats, and stir reheated food well.

Which Eco Rascals plate should you choose?
