Soft wash cloths and wash mitts are essential for caring for your baby. You use them in the bath, at the changing table and after meals. A baby's skin is thin and sensitive. A soft cloth made of cotton or bamboo feels pleasant and cleans gently, without rubbing. Small sizes fit neatly around a parent's hand and are easy to use for the face, the hands and the little skin folds. Reusable cloths and mitts can also be washed again and again. Hydrophilic (muslin) cotton is airy and thin, and dries quickly. The Jollein hydrophilic wash cloths come in packs of 3, measure about 15 x 20 cm and are made of 100% (hydrophilic) cotton. Choose from prints such as Farm, Leaves, Pear, Teddy Bear, Mini dots blush pink and Nature in ash green or pale pink. They are washable at 60°C. The Meyco 3-pack is also made of 100% hydrophilic cotton, about 20 x 17 cm and washable at 60°C, with prints such as Animal Multicolor, Feather Clouds Dots, Forest Animals Toffee, Mini Panther Toffee and Moon Indigo.
The Lässig muslin wash cloths come in packs of 3 and are made of 100% cotton. Choose from light pink, mint and rosewood of about 13 x 22 cm, or larger cloths of about 30 x 30 cm in mustard and rosewood. They are washable at 40°C. The larger size is handy for washing the whole body.
Terry feels thick and soft and absorbs a lot of water. The Jollein terry wash cloths are made of 100% cotton terry and are washable at 40°C. Choose from Pale Pink, Jeans Blue, Ears Pale Pink and Jungle Jambo.
The Lässig Play wash mitts are made of 100% GOTS-certified organic cotton, about 13 x 22 cm, and are shaped like a cheerful sea creature: a shark in grey, an octopus in pink, a turtle in green or a whale in blue. That turns bath time into a game straight away. The Babyono Bamboo wash mitts are made of 70% bamboo and 30% cotton, about 5 x 22 cm, with a polar bear in blue, a fox in grey or a unicorn in pink.
Babyono also offers wash cloths in packs of 3 with a little sponge. The cloths are about 25 x 25 cm, the sponge about 13 x 8 cm, and they are made of 100% cotton. Choose from blue, lavender and pink. Use lukewarm water and wet the cloth well. Start at the face and work from clean to less clean: first the eyes, then the rest of the face, the hands, the folds in the neck and then the rest of the body. Use a separate cloth for the bottom. Then pat the skin dry with a soft towel or hooded towel, and don't forget the skin folds. After meals, quickly wipe the mouth and hands clean with a damp cloth. Never leave your baby alone in the bath while washing, not even for a moment.
You often use them several times a day, especially in the first months, when your baby still spits up and dribbles a lot. With a supply of about 6 to 10 you will always have a clean one to hand, even when a few are in the wash. A 3-pack is therefore practical: it helps you build up a supply quickly. Keep a few at the changing table, a few in the bathroom and one in the changing bag for on the go.
Wash the cloths regularly, preferably after every use. Hydrophilic cotton can be washed at 60°C, and terry, muslin and organic cotton at 40°C. Always check the care label of your product. Use a mild, fragrance-free detergent and skip fabric softener, so the fabric keeps absorbing moisture well. Hydrophilic cloths often get even softer after a few washes. Let them dry well before putting them away.
