A baby comforter is often a baby's very first friend: soft to hold, nice to suck on and familiar when everything is new and exciting. Many children keep their comforter close for years. At Tiny Giggles you will find baby comforters from nuuroo, Jollein, Babyono, Tikiri and BimbiDreams, with bears, owls, deer, foxes and giraffes, in soft cotton and organic versions. Below you can read which types there are and what to look out for.
A comforter combines a cuddly toy with a soft cloth. Babies can easily grab it, feel the different fabrics and pop a corner in their mouth. After a while it starts to smell of your child, and that is exactly what makes it so familiar. At nursery, with grandparents or during a sleepover, it brings a piece of home.
The Arie comforters from nuuroo are made of 100% organic cotton and measure 35 x 35 cm. They come in calm colours such as caramel café, light brown, warm green and woodrose, and suit a natural nursery beautifully.
The comforters from Jollein are about 20 cm and made of 100% cotton. Choose the deer in ash green or pale pink, or the grey fox as a pacifier comforter.
Babyono makes comforters with different fabrics and sounds, such as Todd the Bear (15 x 22.5 cm) and Celeste the Owl (18 x 17.5 cm) with a teether. They stimulate the senses with shapes, textures and sounds. The larger Skinny Mate characters Hank and Pete and Teddy Gardener are long cuddly toys with long arms and legs, easy to grab.
Is your baby teething? The Tikiri comforters combine an organic cotton cloth with a natural rubber teether, shaped like a giraffe or lion (about 21 cm). Babyono's Celeste the Owl also has a teether. Find more to chew on under teethers and teething toys.
The pink fox from BimbiDreams has an organic cotton outer and is washable at 30 °C.
In the first year, nothing loose belongs in the cot, including a comforter. So use it when your baby is awake and you are with them, for example in the playpen or on your lap. From about 1 year, a small comforter can go to bed with your child. Check it regularly for loose threads or parts. Only use a pacifier comforter when your child is awake.
Many parents make the comforter part of the bedtime routine: pyjamas on, teeth brushed, a book and then the familiar cloth. With young babies you put it back beside the cot after cuddling; from about one year it can go in. A fixed sequence helps your child relax and gives them something to hold on to, even somewhere other than home.
Is your child going to nursery or a sleepover? Pack the familiar cloth. It helps with saying goodbye and getting used to new people. Put your child's name on the label so it does not get lost among other children's things, and keep a spare at home.
Many parents buy the same comforter twice. That way you can wash or air one while your child plays with the other, and there is no panic if one gets lost. Swap them regularly so they both smell equally familiar. Children notice the difference between a new and an old, familiar one very well.
A comforter gets held a lot and often goes in the mouth. So wash it regularly according to the washing instructions, for example in a laundry bag on a delicate cycle, or wipe it clean with a damp cloth if it should not be washed. Let it air dry thoroughly.
A newborn mainly looks at contrasts and colours. Around 3 months your baby starts to grab things, and from about 4 months everything goes in the mouth. That is when a cloth with different fabrics and a teether becomes extra interesting. Toddlers often take their cloth everywhere and use it to calm down.
Also browse the cuddly toys and rattles, or everything to play with under play. A soft muslin cloth is always handy in the changing bag too. Everything for the house is under home.

A comforter is one of the sweetest baby gifts: small, affordable and often a baby's first toy. Combine it with a rattle or muslin cloths for a complete gift. We are happy to gift-wrap your present.
Most are suitable from birth. In the first year, only let your baby play with it while awake.
Not in the first year: nothing loose belongs in the cot. From about 1 year, a small comforter is fine.
The Tikiri giraffe and lion, and Babyono's Celeste the Owl.
That depends on the product. Always check the washing instructions; the BimbiDreams fox, for example, can go at 30 °C.
