Soft, natural and lovely to chew on: that is the baby toy range from Meiya & Alvin. The teether and cuddly toys are made of pure natural rubber and cotton, and help your baby when the first teeth come through. At Tiny Giggles you will find Alvin the elephant as a teether and Havah the bunny as a cuddly toy with a rubber head, suitable from birth. Below you can read more about the brand, the materials and how to use and clean the toys safely.
About Meiya & Alvin
The idea for Meiya & Alvin came from Mano Sherif, a woman from Sri Lanka who imagined a world where children can simply be who they are. The range belongs to the Tikiri family and combines natural, sustainable materials with toys that support babies' development. The friendly characters Meiya and Alvin, and their friend Havah the bunny, are made with care for quality and for the environment.
The Meiya & Alvin toys at Tiny Giggles
- Alvin the Elephant teether: a grey elephant of pure natural latex, about 11 x 9 cm. The teether has hard and soft spots to chew on and is easy for small hands to hold.
- Havah The Bunny cuddly toy: a soft bunny doll in white and pink with a pretty dress, about 25 x 17 cm. The head is natural rubber, the body cotton.
- Havah Snuggly with Rubber Head: a comforter in white and pink, about 33 x 17 cm, of velvety soft cotton with a natural rubber head.
The cuddly toys are filled with fibres from 100% recycled plastic bottles. All products are BPA-free, phthalate-free and PVC-free and meet the European safety standard EN71 and the American standard ASTM F963.
Sustainable toys
The brand deliberately chooses natural and recycled materials. Natural rubber is a renewable raw material from nature, cotton is a natural fibre, and the filling of the cuddly toys comes from recycled plastic bottles. That way waste gets a new life as a soft cuddly toy. For parents who care about the environment when choosing toys, this is a great choice. And because the products are sturdily made, they last a long time and can often be passed on to a little brother or sister.
Why natural rubber?
Natural rubber is made from the sap of the rubber tree. It is soft yet sturdy, and gives nicely when your baby bites on it. That makes it a great material for teething toys. Havah's rubber head and Alvin's body are lovely to chew on, while the cotton fabric of the cuddly toys feels soft to hold and to lay against the face.
Please note: natural rubber contains latex. If your child has a latex allergy, choose a teether made of a different material.
Biting and teething
Many babies get their first tooth at around 6 months, although this varies a lot from child to child. Even earlier, they often start drooling and putting everything in their mouth. Biting on something firm can then feel nice on the gums. The products are designed to be easily grasped by small hands, so your baby can practise grasping and bringing things to the mouth. More teething toys are under teethers and teething toys, including the well-known Sophie the Giraffe made of natural rubber.
Using them safely
- Check regularly: don't give the toy to your baby any more if it is worn or damaged.
- Under supervision: let your baby play and chew under supervision.
- Not in the cot: in the first year, don't leave cuddly toys or comforters loose in the cot while your baby sleeps.
- Out of the sun: don't leave the toys in direct sunlight, which is better for the natural rubber.
Cleaning
For light cleaning, wipe the toy with a damp cloth and some soapy water. Then let it dry well. Preferably don't submerge natural rubber in water, so no water stays inside the toy. Always check the label for the full washing instructions of the cuddly toys. Clean the toys more often if your baby chews on them a lot.
Playing and discovering
Baby toys are more than something to bite on. By grasping, holding and feeling, your baby learns a lot about the world. The different materials, soft cotton and firm rubber, give your baby something new to discover. Combine the teether with a rattle for sound, or hang toys from a play gym with baby gym toys. Everything to play with is under play.
Cuddly toys to love
Havah the bunny is a cuddly toy to hug and to chew on. Many children choose a favourite cuddly toy early on that goes everywhere with them. A soft baby comforter or a cuddly toy gives comfort, for example at daycare or on the go. Once you've found a favourite, a second one is handy for when the first is in the wash or gets lost on the way.
Which product do you choose?
